The design of a new athletic center at Mesa Geitonia combines the dual role of a high profile athletic center capable of accommodating athletic events at a competitive level, as well as being offered as a recreational area, revitalizing the neighborhood from its existing unutilized state.
The concept of this proposal is based on the creation of a continuous platform that starts off from the swimming pool area, and extends linearly towards the athletic courts.

The entry to the athletic center is marked by the notion of movement and liveliness that characterize such establishments. The wave like layout of the structure along the length of the sport courts, as well as the dynamic placement of the pool and courts within the site, are distinguished with the feel of energy and fluidity. The identity of the athletic center is furthermore expressed as floating platform, having the swimming pools mechanical systems exposed allowing it to “hover” above the ground.

The need of a separation between the athletes and the spectators lead to the proposal of two separate entrances to the sports center.

The parking area is situated along the entire length, north of the athletic grounds, allowing easy access for the visitors to the sports courts while simultaneously acting as a buffer from the noise of the highway road. The buildings that serve the athletes and visitors as well as the stands of the courts and swimming pool are linearly organized, placed on the east-west axis orienting them towards the North.

The shell of the building is proposed with steel sheet cladding placed circularly on metal frames, amplifying the idea of athleticism and movement.
